The OECD Recognizes El Dorado with the Blue Dot Certification for Its Sustainable Infrastructure and Social Engagement with Local Communities

  • This international milestone is the result of a rigorous evaluation process within the pilot program of the Blue Dot Network, an initiative led by the OECD – the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development – in collaboration with the G7, and supported by the private sector and multilateral organizations.
  • Blue Dot certification enhances the confidence of public and private investors, providing preferential access to instruments like blended finance and global climate funds such as the GCF (Green Climate Fund) and the CIF (Climate Investment Funds).

Bogotá, May 12, 2025. In Paris, France, El Dorado International Airport was officially awarded the Blue Dot certification by the OECD, becoming the first airport in the world and the first infrastructure project in Colombia to receive this prestigious international recognition. This is a global seal of quality awarded to infrastructure projects that stand out for their sustainability, transparency, governance, social inclusion, and contribution to the economic development of their respective countries.

To achieve this recognition, the airport met strict standards across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, aligned with international principles.

"Today, we take another step in our commitment to more transparent, sustainable infrastructure aligned with the highest international standards. This certification recognizes projects of quality, impact, and global investment confidence. It reflects the collective effort of a team dedicated to doing things right and with purpose," said Natalí Leal, General Manager of OPAIN.

The Blue Dot certification adds to the other accolades El Dorado has received this year, including the Platinum Award from Cirium for operational excellence and its selection as the Best Airport in South America for the seventh time and fourth consecutive year, according to Skytrax.

About the Blue Dot Network:

The Blue Dot Network provides internationally recognized certification for high-quality infrastructure projects that are environmentally and socially sustainable, resilient, open, transparent, and economically efficient.

The Blue Dot Network is supported by a global community of diverse stakeholders committed to quality infrastructure, bringing together all relevant actors, including governments, investors, businesses, civil society, and labor unions.

To receive certification, projects must meet a core set of essential requirements across 10 BDN elements, covering the key environmental, social, and governance dimensions of quality infrastructure investment.

Investing in quality infrastructure is essential for sustainable economic development, combating climate change, and improving human well-being worldwide. Reliable certification can boost the confidence of investors and other stakeholders in the strength, resilience, and sustainability of infrastructure projects.
