Do you know the 10 items most commonly forgotten by passengers at the airport? Here we tell you.

Documents, luggage, cellphones, and clothing are part of the Top 10 items that visitors to El Dorado Airport forget during their transit through the terminal. El Dorado has a Lost and Found office where visitors can inquire if their forgotten personal items are there.

Bogotá, February 2024. In 2023, more than 40 million passengers traveled through El Dorado Airport, a record number that proves the importance of the airport in the development of tourism and the economy in Colombia. Several of these passengers —whether due to carelessness or the rush of their journey— forget personal items that can become a headache depending on their importance when traveling. Below, we present the Top 10 lost items at El Dorado Airport, as well as some recommendations for travelers to avoid forgetting their belongings and enjoy their transit through the airport smoothly.

But before we begin with this ranking, it is vital to remember that El Dorado Airport has a Lost and Found office on the 2nd floor of the public hall, in front of gate 5 and entering through the Colombia Immigration hallway, where individuals can report their forgotten objects and contact them at phone number +57 (601) 439 7070 Ext. 5112 or write to the email objetosperdidosyolvidados@eldorado.aero. The office hours are Monday to Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Now, let's start with the Top 10 forgotten items by passengers at El Dorado Airport.

10. Belts

To pass through certain airport security checkpoints, it is necessary to remove the belt, as in most cases, the buckles are metallic and must be taken off to go through the detectors. It is then that many passengers forget their belts and continue their journey.

9. Perishables

Sometimes passengers want to take some food to their destinations that reminds them of home. However, transporting food and other perishables is prohibited depending on the destination, so passengers abandon these products before boarding their planes.

8. Glasses

Reading in the waiting area is a pleasure that many travelers enjoy to spend time before boarding the plane. However, when boarding, many passengers forget their glasses, a mistake that can cause headaches —literally— for the rest of the journey.

7. Clothing

In search of comfort during waiting times, passengers take off clothes that they later forget when boarding the plane. Thus, jackets, caps, coats, hats, shirts, and even shoes are forgotten by passengers at El Dorado Airport.

6. Wallets

Passengers often have to use their wallets in airports to pay for something or to take out and store documents at control points. This often leads to wallets being forgotten in shops or security checkpoints, which translates into a major complication for travelers.

5. Backpacks

Whether due to the excitement of the trip or because of a hurry to arrive on time, many passengers forget their handbags before boarding their planes. Arriving at the destination and realizing that one forgot their backpack is a bitter pill that many passengers swallow due to their carelessness.

4. Cellphones

Despite cellphones increasingly being the object people pay the most attention to, passengers often forget them in various places in the airport terminal. A carelessness that can be very costly.

3. Laptops

Another activity passengers engage in during waiting times is using their laptops to work or entertain themselves. However, sometimes people forget them and later suffer from this costly oversight, not only due to the value of the equipment but also because of the information it contains.

2. Suitcases

Although it may sound very strange, many passengers forget their luggage when traveling. This oversight is not only significant for passengers but also alerts airport authorities who detect such abandoned luggage.

1. Identification Documents

Presenting identification is imperative at various airport checkpoints, as well as in some shops to make purchases. This constant use of identification documents causes many passengers to forget them at different points, resulting in an insurmountable inconvenience when traveling.

Finally, with the aim of ensuring that visitors to El Dorado Airport have a memorable and trouble-free experience during their passage through the terminal, we make the following recommendations to avoid forgetting items that could cause headaches for travelers:

• Keep identification documents in sight and make sure they are returned to you after completing any process at the airport (check-in, security checkpoints, boarding, etc.).

• Do not neglect personal items while in public areas, shops, and waiting areas.

• Check with each airline the policies regarding allowed baggage according to your air ticket and destination to avoid the need to leave abandoned items.

• Avoid rushing. Arriving in time for your flight, as well as preparing all documents and keeping track of your luggage, is essential to avoid forgetting personal items. Preparation will always be your best ally when traveling.
