El Dorado and Celsia team up to install the first electric vehicle charging station at a Colombian airport

  • El Dorado is the first airport in Colombia with an electric vehicle charging station.  The charging station is located in the Central Parking Lot.
  • According to the latest report issued by the Ministry of Transportation, as of March 2022, Colombia had more than 7,000 electric vehicles registered nationwide. Thus, El Dorado and Celsia join the national sustainable mobility plans, which are intended to help combat climate change.
  • With this partnership, El Dorado and Celsia contribute to encourage the use of clean energies to reduce pollution in the city. By using these recharging stations, 1 ton of carbon dioxide is no longer emitted per month, which is the equivalent of not filling up 135 conventional vehicles with fossil fuel every month.

Bogotá, April 28, 2022.- As part of its efforts to contribute to climate change mitigation, carbon footprint reduction and on-going national vehicle electrification process, El Dorado and Celsia have installed their first electric charging station in the central parking lot of the airport terminal. With this, the airport strives to promote sustainable mobility and support its goal of reducing emissions by 40% by 2025 and 57% by 2028.

The first electric vehicle charging station at El Dorado will have 3 charging points with a capacity of 7.5 kW each. There, travelers and visitors will be able to charge the battery of PHEV hybrids vehicles or 100% BEVs with type 1, type 2 and GB/AC connectors.

Mauricio Vélez, Infrastructure Manager of OPAIN, said “At El Dorado we are committed to the environment, especially with climate change mitigation and carbon footprint reduction.  This is how we create sustainable connections through this type of initiatives aimed at providing sustainable solutions to the terminal users who have already transitioned to hybrid or 100% electric vehicles”.

“Since 2018 Celsia has been an energy efficiency partner of El Dorado where we installed a solar roof and replaced the traditional lighting with a LED system. This electric vehicle charging station is the perfect complement to our efforts and contributes to the airport's economic and environmental objectives, which is something we are very proud of. It is also the first electric charging station at an airport in Colombia, adding to the entire mobility ecosystem that Celsia has been deploying in the country to promote a more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility. There are already more than 1,500 vehicle charging stations located in corporate, business, public and residential areas in Valle, Tolima, Bolívar, Antioquia, Cundinamarca and the coffee triangle region”, said Luis Felipe Vélez, Celsia's commercial leader.

According to the latest report issued by the Ministry of Transportation, as of the end of February, Colombia had more than 7,000 electric cars registered nationwide, a figure that proves the rapid growth of this sector, which only numbered 2,165 as of 2018.

In this way, El Dorado joins and contributes to the national sustainable mobility plans intended to help fight climate change.
