El Dorado has been chosen as the leading airport in South America by the World Travel Awards.

  • The World Travel Awards are globally recognized as the ultimate hallmark of excellence in the tourism industry.
  • El Dorado reaffirms that it is the #1 airport for everyone, welcoming over 35 million passengers annually, offering innovative, diverse, and accessible connections for all passengers.
  • Airports are engines of development in the tourism sector, as evidenced by the positive traffic recovery figures in Colombia, where there was a 22% increase in domestic passengers and a 9% increase in international passengers compared to 2019.

Bogotá D.C., September 8, 2022 - Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport has been chosen as the leading airport in South America at the 29th edition of the World Travel Awards. These awards were established in 1993 to recognize, reward, and celebrate excellence in all key sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. Today, this brand is globally recognized as the ultimate hallmark of excellence in the industry.

In 2020, El Dorado received this prestigious award for the first time, recognizing the top players in the tourism industry by region. This year, it once again earns this title. According to Andrés Ortega, General Manager of Opain, "We are the Leading Airport in the region, as a result of the joint effort of all employees and the airport community. This is further proof of the commitment we have undertaken at El Dorado to create meaningful connections through innovation, technology, diversity, and to offer exceptional service to the more than 35 million passengers who pass through our terminal daily."

This recognition demonstrates the potential of airports within the tourism sector as economic transformers and catalysts. In our region, it is expected that the exponential increase in demand will be over 70% by 2050.

The winners were announced at the 2022 Caribbean and Americas Gala Ceremony of the WTA, held at Sandals Montego Bay, Jamaica, with the attendance of key decision-makers, figures, and influencers in the tourism sector.
