El Dorado, focused on improving the traveler experience, modernizes its signage - making it easier and more intuitive, and bringing it up to the standards of the world's major airports.
- In this way, El Dorado modernizes itself to the level of the world's major airports, following international protocols that benefit travelers' transit.
- This modernization is part of the airport's strategy to enhance infrastructure and the traveler experience, providing better service to airport users.
- From now on: International concourses will be labeled with letters A and B, in blue. Domestic concourses will have the letter C, in orange - where Latam is usually located, and letter D, in green - where Avianca and Wingo are usually situated.
Bogotá, August 22, 2023. The new signage at El Dorado Airport reflects our commitment to providing innovation, improved infrastructure, technology, and a memorable experience for travelers during their transit through the terminal. With this transformation, the terminals have transitioned from numerical nomenclature to color and letter identification, making it easier for travelers to find their way and saving them time during their journeys.
"We continue to advance in the development of our strategy to provide a memorable traveler experience, now presenting this transformation that allows us to meet the standards of major airports by following international protocols that facilitate the transit of passengers. Thanks to the collaborative work of the entire airport community and authorities, we continue to invest in the development of new plans and improvements in infrastructure, which, combined with the technology we have been implementing for several years, enable more than 36 million passengers who transit through El Dorado annually to have a better travel experience," says Natalí Leal, General Manager of Opain.
Starting now, this will be the new nomenclature:
- International concourse: blue, letters A and B.
- Domestic concourses: - Letter C, orange (where Latam is usually located). - Letter D, green (where Avianca and Wingo are usually situated).
Once passengers arrive at the airport, they follow the color depending on their destination – domestic or international, then the letter, and after passing through security, they look for the gate number, ranging from 1 to 15.
Alongside the transformation of the terminal signage, additional changes have been made to the signage in the public area of the airport. The exterior entrance doors on the first and second floors have been renumbered, with the previous door 9 now being door 1, door 8 becoming door 2, and so on. Additionally, the signs will have new contrasting colors to improve accessibility and visibility.
Furthermore, larger videowalls have been installed on walls and columns to provide better visibility of flight schedules and to guide people to the appropriate concourse (letter and color) for their flight.
Continual Improvement in the Airport Traveler Experience
The signage renovation is part of the airport's strategy to strengthen the standards of the experience it offers to all visitors. In the past year, El Dorado has made improvements in infrastructure and services that facilitate the movement of people with reduced mobility or disabilities, ensuring faster and more inclusive access throughout the airport.
In addition to these improvements, the terminal has leveraged innovation and technology to implement new tools that streamline processes and reduce waiting times. Currently, El Dorado has: (i) 40 passport reader machines to facilitate access to domestic and international waiting areas, (ii) 46 self-check-in kiosks, (iii) 19 self-service machines for checking baggage, (iv) 17 biometric machines, (v) 26 LPR cameras for vehicle license plate recognition in parking lots, and (vi) 17 ATM payment modules for parking fees.
Recently, through the international Sunflower network, airport personnel are trained to provide timely assistance to individuals with hidden disabilities.
Furthermore, as part of the El Dorado Airport's experience strategy, renovation works are currently underway in the emigration zone to increase its current space by 16%, allowing for more efficient operation.
In this way, OPAIN continues to work hand in hand with the entire airport community to provide a memorable, comfortable, and easy experience for users and visitors who pass through the airport on a daily basis.
