El Dorado Accessible: An Airport for Everyone

  • With the goal of providing special support to people with invisible disabilities, El Dorado has partnered with the Hidden Disabilities organization and its Sunflower program.
  • Additionally, the airport offers tactile paving, PMR (Persons with Reduced Mobility) restrooms, temporary PMR parking spaces, and staircases with handrails adapted for people of short stature.
  • Over 3,780 members of the airport community have been trained through the Service School to provide inclusive, high-quality assistance to all passengers.

Bogotá, May 15, 2025. In its commitment to promoting a more accessible and inclusive travel experience, El Dorado has become a benchmark for accessibility in Colombia, offering services designed to facilitate the journey of passengers with disabilities.

Key initiatives include:

Sunflower Lanyard: El Dorado is a proud partner of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, a global initiative that helps identify passengers with hidden or invisible disabilities, allowing them to receive personalized support tailored to their needs. To date, 1,197 lanyards have been distributed to national and international travelers.

The Sunflower lanyard also allows El Dorado staff, airlines, Migración Colombia, and other entities to identify passengers requiring differentiated support, ensuring a more personalized experience during security checks, boarding, and terminal navigation. Passengers wearing the lanyard also have access to priority lines, reducing their wait times.

The Sunflower lanyard is free and can be requested at the airport's information desks, located in Terminal 1, second floor, between entry doors 4 and 5, and in Terminal 2, first floor, on the western side of door 3. To obtain one, travelers simply need to present a document from a foundation or support organization or share their specific needs.

Additional Accessibility Features:

  • Tactile Paving: Guides passengers with visual impairments safely and independently throughout the airport.
  • PMR Restrooms: Specially designed spaces to ensure comfortable access and use for all passengers.
  • Temporary PMR Parking Spaces: Located on the first and second floors to ensure quick and convenient terminal access.
  • Handrails for Short Stature Travelers: Staircases equipped with lower handrails for added safety and comfort.
  • Braille Signage: Available in various areas of the airport to assist visually impaired passengers with navigation.
  • Service School: More than 3,780 members of the airport community have been trained to deliver inclusive, high-quality service, enhancing support for passengers with diverse needs. Trained organizations include Aerocivil, ANI, Migración Colombia, National Police, Avianca, Latam, Satena, and Vise.

With these initiatives, El Dorado joins over 300 airports in more than 30 countries and 18 airlines worldwide as part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, demonstrating its commitment to more inclusive, respectful, and accessible air travel for all.
