Record-Breaking Numbers! El Dorado Moved Over 800,000 Tons of Cargo in 2024, the Highest Volume in Its History

  • The El Dorado International Airport remains the top air cargo terminal in Latin America and the Caribbean, and ranks #34 globally in cargo volume.
  • The 2024 cargo movement figure is the highest ever recorded and represents an increase of more than 5 points compared to 2023.
  •  E-commerce continues to drive imports to Colombia by more than 100%.

Bogotá D.C., March 2025. El Dorado International Airport has reached a new milestone, recording a historic 809,029 tons of cargo moved during 2024, an increase of 5.12% compared to 2023 (769,607 tons) and 3.74% compared to 2022 (779,897 tons). This achievement confirms Bogotá's airport as the most important in the country and a strategic hub for connecting Colombia to the world.

At El Dorado, cargo exports are primarily led by flowers, seafood, tropical fruits and vegetables, and textiles, while imports are driven by fabrics and textiles, measuring devices, industrial machinery, electrical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce.

Fabio Silva, Operations Manager at OPAIN, stated, “The 2024 figures motivate us to continue strengthening our operational, technical, and logistical processes to meet the global demand for air freight, which grew by 11.3% last year, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The fact that more than 800,000 tons of cargo were moved from El Dorado to over 90 national and international destinations is a testament to the efficiency and excellence of the most heavily trafficked airport terminal in Latin America.”

For his part, Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, noted that “The air cargo industry closed 2024 with its best performance ever in terms of activity and profitability. Demand grew by more than 10% in response to the surge in e-commerce and limitations in maritime transport. This, combined with certain airspace restrictions that limited capacity on key long-haul routes to Asia, has helped keep yields at exceptionally high levels.”

El Dorado International Airport is committed to implementing technological solutions for air cargo logistics, aiming for maximum efficiency and competitiveness. It also reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, the growth of the national economy, and positioning Bogotá as a city of the future.
