Bogotá, October 7, 2021
In order to raise awareness among Colombians about the danger represented by breast cancer, which kills 100,000 people each year, El Dorado changes its name during October to El Rosado. This initiative rises thanks to a strategic alliance with the AMESE Association, which seeks to do pedagogy throughout this month to promote self-care, help and advice to all people who require it.
By making use of audiovisual tools, as well as the presence of AMESE staff, El Dorado will become a center for information and pedagogy on breast cancer, so that all visitors can learn and clarify any concerns about this disease, that if not detected in time can be fatal.
According to the Pan American Health Organization, it is estimated that about 460.000 women throughout the continent are diagnosed each year with breast cancer and around 100.000 die from this disease, becoming the second cause of cancer mortality in the region, after lung cancer.
In the case for Colombia, according to the figures revealed by AMESE, 113,221 people are diagnosed with cancer each year, of which 52,866 are men and 60,355 are women. These figures show that approximately 182 people suffer from this disease per 100,000 inhabitants and by the year 2025 the number of people with this type of cancer is projected to reach 293,524.
