El Dorado Launches "A Safe Journey" – Because Traveler Safety is Our Priority

  • In 2024, the joint efforts between OPAIN and the Anti-Narcotics Police led to the seizure of 2 tons of cocaine and 421 kilograms of marijuana, as well as 457 arrests made by the Anti-Narcotics Police at the airport.
  • Additionally, the Airport Police issued 1,700 citations for activities contrary to public order within the terminal.
  • In 2025, El Dorado presents "A Safe Journey", an initiative aimed at raising awareness among travelers and visitors about the importance of using authorized transportation, avoiding giving money or information to strangers, wrapping luggage only at designated points, and reporting any suspicious behavior.
  • At the same time, the Anti-Narcotics Police are strengthening their efforts with the use of CT X-ray scanners and millimeter wave arches to improve security.

Bogotá D.C., March 5, 2025. Thanks to the collaborative work of OPAIN, the National Police, the Anti-Narcotics Police, and VISE, significant security results were achieved in 2024:

  • 457 individuals involved in drug-related criminal activities were arrested.
  • More than 2 tons of cocaine hydrochloride and 421 kilograms of marijuana were seized, delivering a significant blow to criminal networks that threaten national security.
  • These achievements are the result of the use of advanced technology, including monitoring systems, artificial intelligence, high-definition cameras, and enhanced controls that have optimized early detection of suspicious activities.

Natalí Leal, General Manager of OPAIN, stated, "The investment in technology, the coordinated work with authorities and VISE – our security company – and the implementation of these types of informational strategies for passengers help us achieve our goals with greater success and efficiency. We aim to provide a space where people feel safe, but it is essential for travelers to stay informed, follow instructions, and report any suspicious activity."

El Dorado presents the "A Safe Journey" campaign to improve the experience, well-being, and safety of travelers in the terminal. This initiative also seeks to raise awareness among travelers, companions, and visitors about the importance of adopting preventive measures to ensure a risk-free experience.

"A Safe Journey: Your Safety is Our Priority" will focus on the following key areas:

  • Prevention of Begging and Illegal Sales: Avoid giving money or information to strangers.
  • Luggage Protection: Encourage travelers to wrap their bags exclusively at authorized points with properly identified personnel.
  • Reporting Suspicious Activities: Emphasize the urgency of reporting suspicious behaviors that may disturb the peace of the airport community.

As part of the project, impactful messages have been installed at airport entry points through El Dorado's robust 24/7 surveillance and monitoring system. Users will find contact numbers for the Operations Control Center and the National Police to report any suspicious activity. Additionally, restroom areas in the terminal will display signs with recommendations on keeping personal belongings safe, avoiding contact with strangers, and wrapping luggage only at authorized points. These reminders will also be reinforced on the airport's digital information screens.

In this context, Juan Pablo Cifuentes, Administrative and Financial Manager at VISE, stated, "Our team is committed to the safety and order of operations at El Dorado, continuously monitoring and acting on any unusual situations in coordination with the authorities."

El Dorado International Airport invites all travelers and visitors to be active participants in this initiative by using certified services, following prevention recommendations, reporting any suspicious activity, and seeking guidance from airport personnel for official support. With the "A Safe Journey" campaign, El Dorado continues to implement actions that protect those passing through the country's main airport.
